‘The purpose of our lives is to be happy.’ – Dalai Lama
Have you ever been so caught up in a game that you forgot that it’s only a game? Sometimes life is like that.
There’s so much anxiety about competing and winning that it stops being fun. Stress kicks in when the fun is gone.
Playing is natural to us. It is part of our inborn nature. It’s also a huge clue as to how life is supposed to flow. It’s always fun to watch how young children use their imagination during play. See puppies, kittens or any young creature in the animal kingdom lightheartedly practice their natural abilities as they play. I wonder if they stop enjoying the game when they are adults? Frankly, I have never seen a lioness throw a tantrum or beat herself up as she sees her intended meal making a clean get away.
Play and imagination go hand in hand. Imagination is part of our operating system. It’s meant to be a fun, safe place for us to explore, plan and practice future events. Playing within our mind and imagination is what helps us to be Conscious Co-Creators in the Universe. What a shame to waste such an awesome God-given-gift because we think that as adults we have to take life so seriously.
Four P.L.A.Y. Stress To Success Strategies
‘Lighten up, just enjoy life, smile more, laugh more, and don’t get so worked up about things. – Kenneth Branagh
P is for Play! Life’s a Game – It’s only a Game
Play more, stress less. Why do Angels Fly? Because they take themselves so lightly. We can constructively use our God-Given body-suit equipment, namely mind and imagination, to be successful, and have fun at the same time. We were born to play and life is supposed to be playful. Here’s how…
a) Playfully imagine the road ahead of you today as a sparkling silver light. See it full of sparkling bubbles full of playfulness. Do this preferably first thing in the morning, or at anytime during the day when you need a happy bubble break.
b) Watch the bubbles reflecting rainbow colors as they happily bounce off and away from anything heavy or taking itself too seriously. If you have difficulty imagining this, get yourself a jar of bubble and have fun blowing real bubbles.
c) Hear yourself singing a happy song. Feel happiness pumping with the rhythmic beat of your heart. Practice a happy walk, bob or dance. Get excited anticipation knowing that everything good is flowing your way.
‘The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.’ – Audrey Hepburn
L is for Laugh! Best stress relief, ever!
Now that your imagination has paved the way ahead with excitement and enthusiasm, it time for more
laughter in your life. I love to playfully introduce a ‘derailing remark’ when situations are being taken too seriously. It jolts the mind out of seriousness and lightens the mood. I naturally laugh when I’m stressed, its a common African coping skill. For me, laughter and play are two of my favorite coping skills. Laughter is only a youtube away. Personally, I like Fluffy, especially his account of being in Saudi Arabia. Laugh brings tears to my eyesm cleansing eyes and soul.
A is for: Appreciative Attitude, Affirm, and Action
An Appreciative Attitude determines your vibration altitude. The more you appreciate, the more you will have to appreciate. Appreciate and thank God (and everyone else) for all that you appreciate. A playful, joyful, appreciative attitude is a high frequency vibration that elevates your energy to the same high frequency vibrations as peace, success, goodness, beauty and abundance. Affirmations affect your attitude. Watching uplifting happy movies can also give your attitude a boost. ‘Sister Act’ and ‘Sister Act 2’ are two of my favorites. ‘The God’s Must be Crazy’ is also a fun South African movie. ‘Pay it forward’ is also an excellent attitude movie.
An Affirmation is a positive, constructive way to talk to yourself and others. Affirmations also help program you RAS (Reticular Activating System in your brain – I like to call it our Radar Attracting Search-Engine). Sample affirmations: ‘I am so happy!’ ‘I love to laugh.’ ‘Everything’s flowing my way.
Action is the way that life moves through you. Take inspired action and infuse your actions with light, love and laughter. A compliment, a smile, expressing appreciation are all actions that uplift you and those around you. Do good to feel good.
Y is for: Yoga or Union! Not Pretzel Positions
‘The meaning of yoga is connection of mind, body and spirit.’ – Bikram Choudhury
We humans are comprised of a body-suit, mind, and spirit. We are able to lead a fulfilled, healthier, happier,
stress-free life when we have all aspects of our being united and cooperating. That’s the essence of every yoga practice. The intention of Yoga is unity, cooperation, clarity, and balance.
Yoga or Union is to humanity what a conductor is to an orchestra. Yoga is a tool, like a conductor’s baton. It’s a point of focus. The intention is for the various individual instruments to all play beautifully together in harmony.
Although Hatha Yoga is more commonly known, there are other paths to achieving the same objective. For instance there’s Kriya Yoga, Raja Yoga, various Martial Arts, in fact, anytime we are absorbed mind, body and soul with what we are doing, we have achieved the goal of unity or yoga. That is, to unite mind, body and spirit, allowing an integrated life.
Puja Sri Swamiji says…’One should feel that all that happens in life is leela, (playful illusion), or act of God. – His HolinessSri Ganapathi Sachchidananda Swamiji
